private military companies and defense contractors? I decided to
conduct some “field work” and find out.

Houston-based Halliburton
Co. said Daniel Parker, an employee in its Kellogg, Brown & Root unit working
in Iraq, was killed today when an explosive device detonated near a military convoy.
Parker, 56, of Summerville, S.C., was en route to Baghdad Airport in the convoy
when the device went off. The death toll among employees of Halliburton and its
subcontractors in Iraq and Kuwait is now at 35.
