2 key officers get new jobs outside Iraq

WASHINGTON -- The intelligence chief for the American military command in Baghdad is leaving to head the Army's main intelligence organization in the United States, and the command's top military spokesman is taking a new post at Central Command's US headquarters in Tampa.

They are among a host of new assignments for general officers announced by the Pentagon yesterday.

The Pentagon did not say when the changes would take effect.

Major General Barbara G. Fast, the head of intelligence for the US command in Baghdad, will become commanding general of the US Army Intelligence Center at Fort Huachuca, Ariz.

Brigadier General Mark T. Kimmitt, who appears regularly at news conferences in Baghdad alongside the chief spokesman for the Coalition Provisional Authority, Dan Senor, is leaving to become deputy director for plans and policy at Central Command's main headquarters at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. In addition to his spokesman duties, Kimmitt also was deputy director for operations in Baghdad.

The Pentagon also said that Brigadier General John DeFreitas III will become deputy chief of staff for intelligence at the US military command in Baghdad, which is changing its name from Combined Joint Task Force-7 to Multi-national Forces-Iraq. He currently is deputy assistant chief of staff for US Forces Korea.
