Working
in Iraq Memphis, TN - Lacy Ferguson won't be able to take his nieces and nephews to the park for awhile. He'll be spending the next year as a carpentry foreman in Iraq. Ferguson explains, "I am nervous and excited -- excited for the money. That's the only reason, I'll be honest with you." Ferguson hopes the $100,000 plus he'll make rebuilding life in Iraq will mean a better life for his family in the MidSouth. He says, "Soon as I come back, we're going to buy a house." But with another Mid-Southerner kidnapped while working in Iraq recently, Lacy Ferguson's family worries about him not coming home . It's something he and his wife have discussed. He says, "That's what we talked about last night. If I don't come back what's she going to do? How will she survive -- which is life insurance, but $25,000 without your husband to support you ain't going to go nowhere. Hopefully, I'll make it out." His son Aaron
has come around to supporting his dad's decision to go to Iraq. Aaron says, "I
think it would be cool, because he'd be helping out the country and stuff."
And if all goes well... helping out the family he's leaving behind. Ferguson explains,
"Living in the area we are in... and making the little bit of money we're
making, we're never going to amount to nothing. I see an opportunity to let my
family live a lot nicer. So I am willing to take that chance." From: http://www.wreg.com/Global/story.asp?S=1797655 |
